STILLWATER – Choctaw, Okla. four-star linebacker prospect Israel “Izzy” Hammons made Oklahoma State fans very happy Friday (June 19) evening when live on Instagram he announced his commitment to the Cowboys. The 6-3, 230 pound Hammons had offers from Oklahoma State, Texas, Arizona, Arizona State, Auburn, Baylor, Duke, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Purdue, Texas Tech, Utah, Vanderbilt, and more. He visited Oklahoma State (4/18) and Texas (1/12) officially but the orange he prefers is bright orange.

Oklahoma State can really benefit from Hammons as they will lose linebackers Ethan Wesloski, Tate Romney, and Trip White from this season’s defense. Hammons is one of those unique prospects that could come in and report in January and with the work and spring practice be ready to contribute as a true freshman, not necessarily a starter, but play special teams and get reps in to help the defense. He has all the tools.

It is a plus that he has played on both sides of the football for Choctaw. All that experience adds up. Also, he is a winner and part of a highly successful prep program that has played for and won a state championship. He was part of the state champion in 6A-II in 2024 with the win over Muskogee and he played an even larger role in the runner-up in 6A-II last season to Sand Springs.

In the 32-27 hard fought loss, Hammons caught two passes for 51-yards on offense and on defense he had four tackles, all unassisted and two quarterback hurries.

On the season Hammons had over 85 tackles and double-digit tackles-for-loss. Choctaw does not release individual player stats. The defense was one of the best in the state. They played six playoff teams including Hays from Nebraska and Lubbuck Monterey from Texas. They also played Class 6A-I State Champion Bixby and the 57 points allowed in that game hurt the per game average of 22.4 points allowed on defense.

Hammons is the ninth commitment for Oklahoma State and the third on defense. He is the first linebacker pledge in the class.
